Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Hydro-Québec subsidy, solar panel installation, and the SOLARCO process.

How much does a solar panel cost with the Hydro-Québec subsidy?

With the Hydro-Québec subsidy of $1,000/kW (maximum 40% of total cost), a typical 4.8 kW residential installation costing approximately $18,000 would come to approximately $13,200 after the subsidy. The return on investment drops from 23 years to 10-12 years.

How does the 2026 Hydro-Québec subsidy work?

The program offers $1,000 per kilowatt installed, up to a maximum of 40% of the total installation cost. Panels must be certified, installed by an accredited contractor, and connected to the Hydro-Québec grid. SOLARCO handles all the paperwork for you.

Am I eligible for the solar panel subsidy?

To be eligible, you must: reside or have a business in Québec, install photovoltaic panels certified for the Canadian market, have the work done by an accredited contractor (like SOLARCO, RBQ certified), and be connected to the Hydro-Québec grid.

What is Hydro-Québec net metering?

Net metering allows you to feed your surplus solar electricity back into the grid. You receive a credit on your bill for each kWh fed back. It's as if your meter runs backwards when your panels produce more than you consume.

How long does solar panel installation take?

The installation takes 1 to 3 days depending on the system size. The complete process, from consultation to Hydro-Québec connection, takes approximately 4 to 8 weeks. With the high demand expected for 2026, we recommend booking your assessment as soon as possible.

What is the warranty on solar panels?

SOLARCO offers a 5-year warranty on solar panels and a 10-year warranty on installation. We include real-time performance monitoring to ensure your system operates at full capacity.

Do solar panels work in winter in Québec?

Yes! Solar panels work year-round in Québec. Cold temperatures actually improve their efficiency. In winter, production is lower due to shorter days, but snow reflects light and increases output. On an annual basis, Québec receives enough sunlight to make a solar installation profitable.

How much can you save with solar panels?

On average, our clients save 40% on their Hydro-Québec bill. For a typical home, this represents savings of $800 to $2,000 per year. With the $1,000/kW subsidy, the return on investment is 10 to 12 years.

Does SOLARCO serve my city on the South Shore?

SOLARCO serves the entire South Shore of Montreal and the Island of Montreal: Longueuil, Brossard, Saint-Hubert, Boucherville, Saint-Lambert, LaSalle, Verdun, Greenfield Park, Chambly, Saint-Bruno, Laprairie, Candiac, Sainte-Catherine, Delson, Saint-Constant, Beloeil, McMasterville, Varennes, Sainte-Julie, and more.

Are batteries included in the subsidy?

Batteries are not included in the residential component of the solar panel subsidy. However, there is a dedicated energy storage subsidy that can be combined with the solar subsidy. For the commercial component, energy storage is eligible for a separate subsidy in addition to the 30% refundable tax credit.

How can I finance my solar panel installation?

Several options exist: the Hydro-Québec subsidy covers up to 40% of the cost, green loans are offered by several financial institutions, and the 30% refundable tax credit is available for businesses. SOLARCO can help you evaluate all available options.

What maintenance do solar panels require?

Solar panels require very little maintenance. Annual cleaning and a visual inspection are sufficient. Rain and snow generally do the cleaning work. SOLARCO offers preventive maintenance packages to ensure your system performs at its best year after year.
